Sujata and Swanan

After Sujata’s younger sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and found to be BRCA positive (the breast cancer gene), Sujata decided to undergo testing to see if she carried the BRCA mutation. Sujata was BRCA positive and while she did not have cancer, she was concerned about passing the gene on to her children. She wanted to undergo IVF with pre-implantation genetic testing to screen for the BRCA mutation. Unfortunately, insurance doesn’t cover IVF if you’re not infertile (which they weren’t), nor did it cover embryo testing (which they needed).

The Coalition Grant gave Sujata the opportunity to conceive without the fear of passing on the gene and facing a future of breast cancer risks. Through this grant, Sujata was able to transfer an embryo that was both chromosomally normal and unaffected by the breast cancer gene. Today, Sujata and Swanan are the proud parents of a beautiful little girl Eera, who was born in September, 2017.

“Thanks for making this possible for us in creating this beautiful miracle. We are very grateful for the Coalition.”

Sujata and Swanan are recipients of a donated IVF cycle from our Partner Practice, Fertility Centers of Illinois and donated PGD/PGS testing with Partner Practice, Natera.

The Life Grant gave Sujata the opportunity to conceive without the fear of passing on the gene and having future a future face breast cancer risks.
