My husband and I met during my sophomore year of college. Three years prior to this I was diagnosed with MRKH disease, which meant it would be impossible for me to carry a child of my own. The news was devastating but thankfully there were options to allow us to start a family and have the life we’ve always dreamt of.

The enormous costs of surrogacy was a definite stumbling block on our quest to having a child. Word had gotten around our family of the difficulties of our situation, and in the single most selfless gift either of us had ever received, my cousin offered to be our surrogate. Words cannot express our gratitude towards her and her husband.

That being said, the journey is still filled with expensive doctor bills and medication costs that add up quickly. So in a desperate attempt to make our dream a reality, we applied to the Life Foundation, and by the grace of God, we were selected. Tears of joy poured from my eyes as I told Eric the good news. Our prayers were answered, and we are both looking forward to beginning our journey to becoming parents.

Devan and Eric are recipients of a Family Building Financial Grant. They welcomed a baby boy, Robert Owen, in May 2020!

When we found out that the next step was IVF, we thought our dreams were shattered
