Julia and Richard are lifelong Chicagoans with deep roots in the local Jewish community. Richard is a construction litigation attorney, and Julia works with hospitals to improve maternal health outcomes. Although their lives overlapped for years, they finally met through Richard’s sister whom Julia became friends with during an Israel program in 2008. They began dating in the summer of 2021 and were married two years later.

Julia underwent cancer treatment while in college, an experience that ultimately affected her ability to become pregnant and carry a child. Today, Julia and Richard are pursuing surrogacy as the path to building the family they have long hoped for.
