Family Stories
Kimberly
When I was young and people asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always replied “a Mom.” I always thought that I would meet the person I was supposed to be with, get married and have a decent size family. I knew I wanted to be a Mom way before I knew what I wanted to do as far as a profession. My vision and how things played out were complete opposite.
I have always put others before me and have been taking care of my Mom for close to 20 years and kept pushing off becoming a Mom for a few reasons. In 2014, I got married and my then wife and I were working with a fertility clinic. I was so excited to finally start my journey - until she surprised me with a divorce. I put my journey to motherhood on hold and focused on myself. I have finally come to the point and realization that at 39, if I don’t try now I may lose that opportunity to conceive and carry.
So, I am doing it alone but still just as excited, if not more this time around. Endometriosis and a blood disorder stack the odds against me slightly but when you know you’re supposed to be a Mom, you know, and you don’t let anything get in the way of that. My Bella (puggle in the pic) is looking forward to being a big sister as much as I cannot wait to be a Mom...to a tiny human.
